The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that McDonald’s, the burger chain, will be closing its US offices temporarily this week to inform corporate employees about the upcoming layoffs as a part of a larger company restructuring.
According to the Wall Street Journal, McDonald’s Corporation has sent an internal email to its US employees and some international staff, requesting them to work from home from Monday through Wednesday of this week. The purpose of this move is to inform them virtually about staffing decisions, as part of a broader company restructuring. However, the exact number of employees who will be laid off is not yet clear.
“In the week starting April 3, we will inform our employees about important decisions regarding staffing levels and roles within the organization,” stated the message by the Chicago-based company, as per the report in the Journal.
According to the Wall Street Journal, McDonald’s has also requested its employees to cancel all in-person meetings with vendors and other external parties at its headquarters. However, the company has not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters.
In January, as part of its updated business strategy, the fast-food chain had announced its plan to review the staffing levels of its corporate workforce, which might result in job cuts in certain areas and expansion in others.
It is anticipated that McDonald’s will commence making important announcements from Monday.
