Anticipated Features for iOS 17 and macOS at Apple's WWDC 2023

In just a few hours, at 10:30pm IST, Apple CEO Tim Cook will take the stage to deliver a highly anticipated keynote address, signaling the commencement of the 2023 edition of Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). This five-day event serves as a platform for Apple to engage with developers and unveil its latest innovations, products, and technologies. The keynote address by Tim Cook is expected to set the stage for exciting announcements and provide a glimpse into the future direction of Apple’s software platforms and ecosystem. Developers, tech enthusiasts, and Apple fans around the world eagerly await the start of WWDC 2023 and the insights it will bring.

Tech enthusiasts eagerly anticipating Apple’s highly-anticipated product unveilings will need to exercise a bit more patience. For those counting down the minutes, Zac Hall from 9 to 5 Mac has compiled an intriguing list of features he fervently hopes Apple will introduce for iOS 17 and macOS during its flagship event. This compilation stokes excitement and speculation as enthusiasts anticipate the grand revelations that await at this much-anticipated gathering of the tech giant.

Zac Hall, in his wishlist for the upcoming iteration of Apple’s iPhone-operating software, expresses a desire for the inclusion of a feature already available on the Mac: version history in Notes. This sought-after capability would allow users to access previous states of their documents from hours ago, if necessary. By incorporating version history into iOS 17, Apple would provide users with enhanced control and the ability to seamlessly navigate through their Notes, promoting a more efficient and productive experience.

Additionally, Zac Hall expresses his wish for the inclusion of two features in iOS 17. Firstly, he hopes for the introduction of crossfade, a feature that would enhance the transition between songs for a seamless listening experience. Secondly, he desires the ability to rearrange tiles in the Weather app, allowing users to customize their display and prioritize relevant information. Furthermore, Hall hopes for the option to rearrange data sources, such as shifting the tiles widget options on the Home screen, offering users greater flexibility and personalization within their iOS interface. These proposed additions would further empower users to tailor their iOS experience to their specific preferences and needs.

Hall also expresses his desire for Apple, under the guidance of CEO Tim Cook, to introduce Lock screen customization, currently available on the iPhone, to the iPad. He considers this feature a significant addition if successfully implemented. Additionally, he advocates for making the iPad experience more akin to that of a Mac by allowing users to position the app Dock on either side of the screen, rather than restricting it to the bottom. This enhancement would provide users with greater flexibility and align the iPad’s functionality more closely with that of a Mac, further blurring the boundaries between the two platforms.

Hall’s wishlist continues with his desire for the Ferrite editing feature, which is currently available on the iPad, to be extended to the Mac. This expansion would enable Mac users to benefit from the editing capabilities provided by Ferrite. Furthermore, Hall expresses his hope for macOS 17 to receive improvements in notifications and widgets, emphasizing the need for some attention in these areas. Additionally, he wishes for macOS 17 to offer support for alternative icons, similar to the functionality found in iOS. These additions would enhance the customization options available to macOS users, allowing them to personalize their experience even further.
