Scientists in Wuhan have warned of a new variant of the coronavirus, NeoCoV, which is currently spreading in South Africa. It is being claimed that 1 out of 3 patients of this variant dies.

Amidst the lightning effect of the Omicron variant, another variant has raised the concern of all the countries around the world. Scientists in Wuhan have warned of a new variant of the coronavirus, NeoCoV, which is currently spreading in South Africa. The new strain is reportedly related to Middle East respiratory syndrome MERS-COV. According to a report by the Russian news agency Sputnik, NeoCoV, which was first detected in bats in South Africa, has a high mortality and transmission rate.

However, Sputnik claimed that NeoCov is not new, as, in 2012 and 2015, it was discovered in Middle Eastern countries. Scientists from Wuhan, China have said that this variant has been found in South Africa. In this, 1 out of every 3 patients can die. However, Chinese scientists cannot be trusted blindly, because in 2020 the corona epidemic spread from Wuhan itself.

The NeoCov variant has been seen inside bats in South Africa. Earlier it was also found in animals. Research published on the bioRxiv website said that NeoCov and its partner virus PDF-2180-CoV can infect humans. Researchers from Wuhan University and China Academy of Sciences also say the same thing. According to him, after just one mutation, it can infect human cells. However, Russia’s Department of Virology and Biotechnology also argues that this variant has less potential to spread to humans. Still, research is needed on this.

Our partner website India.com quoted a statement as saying, ‘The Vector Research Center is aware of the data obtained by Chinese researchers on the NeoCoV coronavirus. At the moment, the issue is not about the emergence of a new coronavirus capable of spreading actively between humans. Let us tell you that this comes after the technical leadership of WHO on COVID-19. Apart from this, another expert Maria van Kerkhove claimed that Omicron will not be the final version of the coronavirus and there may be more in the future.
