Signing up for Threads, Meta's Twitter Competitor

Meta is set to launch Threads, its highly anticipated text-based Twitter competitor, on Wednesday night. However, if you’re eager to stay ahead of the game, there is a way to secure your invitation and gain early access to this exciting platform.

Shortly after Elon Musk announced that Twitter would be implementing temporary limits on the number of tweets users can read, the social media behemoth Meta, known for owning Instagram and Facebook, is gearing up to launch its new app. This timing couldn’t be more significant, as the rate limits on Twitter have prompted users to seek alternative platforms. One such platform is Bluesky, supported by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, which witnessed an unprecedented surge in traffic last Saturday.

However, unlike Bluesky, which is currently limited to an invite-only beta phase, Meta appears to have fewer restrictions on access to Threads. The only prerequisite to use the app is to have an Instagram account. While Threads is scheduled to be launched in the United States on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET, users in the European Union may have to exercise patience as reports suggest they will have to wait a bit longer for its availability. This information is according to the Threads update page.

Getting Started with Threads: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Launch the Instagram app and search for “Threads”: Open the Instagram app on your device and navigate to the Explore page by tapping on the magnifying glass icon located at the bottom left corner. In the search bar at the top, type in the word “Threads” and you should notice a small ticket emoji displayed on the far right.
  2. Tap on the Threads search result: Among the search results, locate the entry for “Threads” and tap on it to proceed.
  3. Access the Threads profile: You will be directed to the Threads profile page. Here, you can learn more about the app and its features.
  4. Click on the “Follow” button: On the Threads profile page, you should see a blue “Follow” button. Tap on it to start following the Threads account.
  5. Wait for the Threads invitation: After following the Threads account, you will need to wait for an invitation to join the app. Invitations are typically sent out by Meta, and once you receive yours, you’ll be able to access and use Threads.
  6. Keep an eye on your notifications: Meta will send you a notification or email when your invitation to Threads is ready. Make sure to check your notifications regularly to see if you’ve received the invitation.
  7. Set up your Threads account: Once you receive the invitation, follow the instructions provided to set up your Threads account. This may involve creating a username, selecting preferences, and connecting your Instagram account.
  8. Start using Threads: Once your Threads account is set up, you can begin using the app to share updates, photos, and communicate with your close friends and groups.

Remember to check for any additional instructions or updates from Meta or the Threads app during the process.
