Russia withdraws some troops from Ukraine border

Russian military tensions with Ukraine ease as diplomatic efforts make little progress

Russian soldiers stationed near Ukraine are returning to their bases. Regarding this, Moscow has said that some forces stationed near Ukraine are returning to their bases because the deployment of Russian forces on the borders was worrying Ukraine that Russia might attack it at any time. Russia has said that this move will help to allay the fear of Ukraine. However, Russia also said that only a few troops are withdrawing from the Ukrainian border and large-scale exercises are still going on.

According to a report on CNN, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed doubts about Russia’s announcement of withdrawal of troops. “There are various statements being made from Russia all the time, so our rule is: see and then believe,” he said. We won’t believe in de-escalation when we don’t see soldiers going back.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Russia’s move. However, he said that there was no sign of de-escalation. The NATO chief said Russia may be looking for a diplomatic solution amid military build-up along the Ukrainian border, but if Russia really wants a solution, it will have to show de-escalation. Moscow has indicated to continue diplomacy. This may be grounds for cautious optimism. Stoltenberg said Russia still has time to back down, avert war, and find a peaceful solution.

Russia’s top diplomat on Monday advised President Vladimir Putin to continue talks with Western countries on the issue of security demands.. After this, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Moscow to meet President Vladimir Putin to avert war, where talks are going on between the two about the security of Ukraine.

Shortly before Russia’s announcement, new satellite images showing Russian military activities in several places near Ukraine surfaced. These images show the movement of heavily deployed forces in Belarus, Crimea, and western Russia. America’s Maxar Technologies, which has been monitoring the construction of the Russian army for the last several weeks, has released these pictures.

According to the report of the news agency Reuters, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also says that the path of talks between the two countries is still not closed. Efforts are on to end the tension. In fact, Russia has deployed more than 130,000 soldiers on the borders of Ukraine. Western countries have become cautious about this.
