Ukraine looks an urgent meeting with Russia to resolve the matter

Ukraine has called a meeting over the next 48 hours with Russia and other members of the major European security grouping over rising tensions along its border. Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba said that Ukraine had asked Russia for an answer regarding the deployment of troops on the border, which Russia ignored. He said a meeting has been called within the next 48 hours to know about Russia’s plans.

Amid rising tensions, several airlines have either canceled or diverted flights to Ukraine. According to the information, Norway has temporarily suspended flights to and from Ukraine citing the security situation. Netherlands-based airline KLM has also informed about the cancellation of all its flights to Ukraine until further notice. At the same time, Ukrainian special airline Skyup said on Sunday that flights from Madeira in Portugal to Kiev have been diverted to the capital of Moldova, Chisinau.

Foreign Minister Kuleba said Ukraine had sought a response from Russia under the terms of the Vienna Document. It is an agreement regarding security issues adopted by the members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). He further added, if Russia is serious about security in the OSCE region, it must fulfill its commitment to military transparency to reduce tensions and enhance security.

Russia has denied any plans to invade Ukraine, despite deploying some 100,000 troops to Ukraine’s borders. However, Russian troops have started military exercises by besieging the Ukrainian border. The news of Russian troops encircling the Ukrainian border has intensified in Europe and Western countries. America says that Russia can attack at any time. The invasion could be triggered by aerial bombardment.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky talks to US President Joe Biden. Biden said that he was ready to give a “decisive answer” along with his allies if Russia attacks Ukraine. The High House said in a statement that Biden underscored the United States’ commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The US is looking for additional comprehensive financial aid to help Ukraine’s economy amid pressure from Russian troops on the Ukrainian border.
