London: There are many types of serious diseases all over the world and treatment of many of them is quite expensive. Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) has approved the world’s most expensive drug for curing one such serious disease. The NHS has approved a drug called Zolgensma, which costs around $ 2.5 million for a single dose. Earlier, the US had approved the use.
Used in this serious disease
Theguardian reports that Zolgensma (used in gene therapy) is used in the treatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a serious disease in children. SMA is a very rare disease and is caused by a deficiency of the SMN-1 gene in the body. The chest muscles of the patients suffering from this disease begin to weaken and there is difficulty in breathing.
Britain has the highest number of cases
The UK has the highest number of cases of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and most children suffer from the disease. Every year around 80 children in England are born with this serious disease. If it is not treated on time, then later, due to increasing difficulty, patients also die.
The drug will be distributed by Britain’s health service, which provides free medical care at the time of delivery, “at a price that is fair to taxpayers after a landmark confidential deal struck by NHS England,” its Chief Executive Simon Stevens announced Monday.
The price of the drug is around $2.5 million
Zolgensma has been created by the world-renowned pharmaceutical company Novartis, valued at £ 1.79 million, or $ 2.5 million. NSS England said in its statement that Zolgensma, produced by Novartis Gene Therapy, maybe the most expensive drug in the world.
