John Moran Auctioneers in California said the computer had only two owners, a college professor and his student, to whom he sold the machine for $650. Both had kept two more people with them for the project.
The koa wood case of the model auctioned was attached by Byteshop, a computer retailer in California, which took delivery of about 50 Apple-1 machines. This computer is also known as the Chaffey College Apple-1 computer.
In a garage in California, Steve Jobs, Wozniak and Ronald Wayne founded Apple on April 1, 1976. To help finance the production of the Apple 1, Jobs sold his VW microbus, while Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator for $500. In 1976, the machines were sold for $666.66. It is believed that there are about 20 such computers in the world that are still capable of working.
