India sent 76,000 tonnes of fuel to Sri Lanka

India is continuously providing help to Sri Lanka, which is facing a severe economic crisis. India has supplied diesel and petrol to Sri Lanka for the second time under the line of credit to deal with the fuel crisis. On Tuesday and Wednesday, 36 thousand metric tons of petrol and 40 thousand metric tons of diesel reached Sri Lanka from India. India has so far sent more than 2.70 lakh metric tonnes of fuel to Sri Lanka.

India has also announced a loan of USD 1 billion to deal with the sinking economy of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the Gotabaya government is constantly facing public opposition. On Wednesday, university professors in Sri Lanka demonstrated against the government.

Amidst the ever-increasing economic crisis, the anger of the people against the Rajapaksa government is also increasing. Thousands of people are protesting on the streets. The protesters say that the government does not have money because it has sold everything to China. On Wednesday, people said that the Rajapaksa family must stop ruining the country. Opposition parties have also come out against the government.

Here, there is also a shortage of essential medicines in Sri Lanka. In view of this, India has sent essential medicines to the neighboring country. Dr. Dammika, Director, National Eye Hospital Colombo said that most of our medicines are coming from India under LOC (Line of Credit), which is a big help for us.

The economy of Sri Lanka has been in continuous decline since the start of the COVID pandemic. Due to this, more than 2 crore people are facing a shortage of food and medicines. This is the biggest economic crisis in the country since 1948. With the deteriorating economy, the value of the Sri Lankan rupee has depreciated sharply against the dollar and the foreign debt on it has been increasing continuously.

Lanka has been going on for the last one month. In fact, the proximity to China and the huge debt received from it weighed heavily on the country’s economy. Due to all this, Sri Lanka was drowned in a debt of 51 billion dollars.
