British Parliament banned Chinese ambassador over sanctions row

The Chinese ambassador was barred from entering British Parliament. Angry British lawmakers wrote to the speaker asking that the Chinese ambassador be stopped from addressing both houses of parliament. The speaker has also justified the demand of the MPs.

London: China’s new ambassador to Britain faced embarrassment when British MPs barred him from entering Parliament. MPs say that at present, the Chinese ambassador should not be allowed to address both houses of Parliament. In fact, there is anger in Britain over the action taken by China, in which Beijing has banned some British lawmakers.

According to the news published on our affiliate website WION, China’s new Ambassador Zheng Zeguang was to address both the houses of the British Parliament, but this could not be possible due to the opposition of the MPs. British MPs, led by Duncan Smith, wrote to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, asking that the Chinese ambassador be barred from entering Parliament.

Speaker Lindsay Hoyle justified the MPs’ demand, saying, “I don’t think it is appropriate for the Chinese ambassador to come to the House of Commons.” While Beijing has imposed sanctions against some of our members. He said that if the restrictions are lifted, then it will not be an issue. The speaker further said, ‘I am not saying that the meeting cannot be held, I am only saying that it is not possible here (Parliament) at present, as long as the restrictions are in place’.

Britain recently imposed sanctions on Chinese officials in the Xinjiang region for human rights violations. The Communist government of China has enslaved thousands of Weigar Muslims in Xinjiang. They are forced to work and tortured in various ways. America has also taken many tough steps against China on this issue. Angered by this action of Britain, China has banned some of its MPs.

At the same time, China is furious after British MPs humiliated their ambassador. Beijing has reacted sharply, calling it a disgusting and cowardly act. Significantly, all the countries of the world have been raising their voice against the Chinese atrocities on minorities. Especially America and Britain have taken many such steps, which have stunned China. Former US President Donald Trump had opened a front against Beijing.
