Pfizer has claimed that its vaccine for Covid-19 is effective even on children between the ages of five and 11. The company will apply for emergency use permission to the Food and Drug Administration by the end of this month.
Washington: The wait for the corona vaccine for children may be over amidst the fear of the third wave of the corona. Pfizer has claimed successful trials on children aged 5 to 11 years. There is a possibility that after getting approval for emergency use, this vaccine will be given to children.
Pfizer said on Monday that its vaccine for Covid-19 is also effective on children between the ages of five and 11. The company will try to get approval from the US in this regard. This step of Pfizer is important in the direction of immunization of children. The vaccine, developed by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech, is already available for children 12 years of age and older.
Now due to the opening of schools in the midst of the outbreak of the epidemic, vaccination of children has become more important because the infection of delta variant spreads rapidly in children which is dangerous. Pfizer tested vaccine doses with very small doses on children going to primary school. This amount is only one-third of the normal dose. Pfizer Senior VP Dr. Bill Gruber said that after the second dose of this vaccine, the antibodies fighting coronavirus infection in children aged five to 11 years were as strong as they are found in adolescents and youth.
Dr. Bill Gruber said that the dosage given to children has proved to be safe, they are also seeing the same effects like general fever, pain in the hand which is seen in teenagers. “I think we’ve come to the right place,” said Gruber, a pediatrician by profession. Gruber said the company would apply to the Food and Drug Administration by the end of this month for emergency use of the vaccine in children aged five to 11 years. The company will also apply to the European and British authorities for the use of the vaccine.
