Apple opens first official retail store in India, offering a new shopping experience to its customers. The company has been serving its customers through authorized Apple stores, but the Apple Store experience is expected to be different. Located in the Jio World Drive Mall at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, the store, called Apple BKC, opened its doors on Tuesday at 11:00am IST. It will stock all products and accessories sold by Apple in India and will also host free ‘Today at Apple’ sessions to help customers learn more about their devices.
The opening of the Apple Store on Tuesday attracted a large crowd of fans and customers eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of the first Apple-run outlet in India. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook also attended the store’s inauguration and is reportedly scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this week.
Apple has introduced its unique Apple Store concept to India, and it appears to be a remarkable addition. The company has made sure that Apple BKC stands out and provides a distinctive experience. Apple claims that the store, located at Jio World Drive Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, is designed to be one of the most energy-efficient Apple Stores worldwide. The store is equipped with its own solar array and has zero dependency on fossil fuels. Apple has announced that its store operates on 100 percent renewable energy and is operationally carbon neutral.
According to the company, the ceiling of the Apple BKC store is made up of 1,000 tiles, each consisting of 31 modules with a total of 408 timber pieces. All of the tiles were assembled in Delhi. Additionally, the store features stone walls sourced from Rajasthan and a 14-meter-long stainless steel staircase, adding to its unique design.
Apple’s first official retail store in India, Apple BKC, located in Mumbai, has all of Apple’s products on display including the latest iPhone, Mac, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, and Apple TV lineups, accompanied by various accessories. Additionally, the store offers the Apple Pickup service, allowing customers to pick up online purchases at the store. Apple also offers free “Today at Apple” sessions in the store to help customers understand their products better. At the store’s launch, Apple hosted special sessions as part of its “Mumbai Rising” series, including Music Lab, Photos Lab, Design Lab, and Art Lab.
To mark 25 years of its presence in India, Apple has opened two official retail stores in the country, starting with the launch of Apple BKC in Mumbai. In 2017, the company began manufacturing iPhones in India through contract manufacturers and it’s estimated that its exports from India crossed $5 billion in the financial year 2022-23. The second store will open in Saket, New Delhi at the Select City Walk Mall on April 20 at 10:00am IST, as per the company’s announcement.
