Kelsea Ballerini swiftly refuted claims of lip-syncing during her performance at the People’s Country Music Awards. Taking to her Instagram Stories after the event on Thursday, September 28, she humorously quipped, “I just want to say, if I was lip-synching, I would’ve sounded a lot better.” She went on to highlight a technical glitch, stating, “One of the cameras was off. Thank you, and goodnight.”
The 30-year-old singer continued to address the situation, posting a backstage photo of herself at the Grand Ole Opry with the caption, “Me singing live while watching others think otherwise.” NBC shared a clip on X (formerly known as Twitter) of Kelsea performing her song “Mountain With a View” at the awards ceremony. In their tweet, the network praised her for a “seamless, flawless performance without any technical issues.” However, some viewers remained skeptical about whether she was truly singing live.

One X user took to Twitter to assert, “She wasn’t singing,” while another boldly claimed, “You were definitely lip-syncing! You missed the mark twice!” A third individual alleged, “She was lip-syncing from the beginning. There’s a clear mistake in the performance.”
Kelsea Ballerini, unafraid of addressing unfounded rumors, has tackled this topic before. Back in 2020, during her collaboration with Halsey at the CMT Awards for the song “The Other Girl,” fans questioned the authenticity of live performances. Responding to one commenter, she clarified, “Not true, every performance was prerecorded due to the challenges posed by COVID.”
In addition to managing social media critics, Kelsea has been excelling in both her professional and personal spheres. Following her divorce from ex-husband Morgan Evans in 2022, the Tennessee native embarked on a relationship with Chase Stokes, known for his role in Outer Banks. Although Chase couldn’t join his girlfriend at the People’s Country Music Awards last night, Kelsea shared with E! News that he was there “in spirit.”
“He was busy with rehearsals,” she excitedly shared on the red carpet. “It was his inaugural visit to the Opry, and it was a blast introducing him to my second home.”
Regarding their initial encounter, Kelsea had previously disclosed that she was the one who initiated contact by sliding into Chase’s DMs.
“I was prepared to re-enter the dating scene,” she shared with “Call Her Daddy” podcast host Alex Cooper back in February, discussing her decision to start dating again. “I just thought, why not? I haven’t really dated before, I’m not sure how it all works. So, I thought, ‘Let’s just be open and see where it goes.’ It’s been an enjoyable experience.”
Regarding the message she sent to the 31-year-old Chase, Kelsea disclosed that she began the conversation simply by addressing him as “Hi, Chase Stokes,” given that his Instagram handle is @hichasestokes.
