Griselda Blanco's Family Files Lawsuit Against Sofia Vergara Prior to Netflix Series Debut

Sofia Vergara finds herself entangled in a lawsuit filed by Griselda Blanco’s family, who are seeking to prevent the release of the Netflix series “Griselda.” Documents obtained by TMZ reveal that the family of the deceased drug lord has also initiated legal action against the streaming platform. Adding to the legal dispute, Griselda’s son Michael alleges that the forthcoming series incorporates elements from interviews he provided for a separate film project, further complicating the situation surrounding the show.

According to the outlet, Griselda’s family is actively pursuing an injunction to prevent the show’s release on the streaming platform on January 25. Michael contends that he engaged in interviews with producers from 2009 until as recently as 2022, with these interviews intended for a project slated for development as a film, TV show, or potentially a book. He asserts that consultants involved in the project began pitching it, including to a producer who allegedly informed him that Netflix was interested, all without utilizing his interview materials. Michael claims that the upcoming series does draw from his interviews and personal experiences. The lawsuit states that Michael and his siblings firmly believe that their names and likenesses should not be featured in the show.

Sofia Vergara takes on the role of the central drug lord in the series, serving not only as the lead actress but also as an executive producer, potentially explaining her inclusion in the lawsuit. Unless the series faces an injunction, it is scheduled for release on Netflix starting January 25.

The actual Griselda earned the monikers “Black Widow” and “Cocaine Godmother” in her tenure as a drug dealer. In 1985, she faced arrest and was charged with drug and murder offenses. She received concurrent sentences of 15 years for drug-related charges and 20 years for murder. Released in 2004 due to health complications, she met a tragic end in 2012 when she was murdered at the age of 69 while exiting a butcher shop in Colombia.

In a January interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sofia delved into the diverse facets of the actual Griselda, expressing, “There are numerous nuances to delve into regarding her identity as a drug lord and, undoubtedly, as a woman and a mother.” She emphasized that Griselda was an individual who went to great lengths to safeguard her family.
