Because of which the government has stepped up the vaccination campaign and it needs more dose. Which means that less vaccine will be available to the rest of the world. Seth Berkeley further said that we expected about 90 million doses in March and April, but now there is a doubt and this is the biggest problem.
Seth Berkeley said that disruption in supply of vaccine from India is definitely a shock, but we are also looking towards developed countries. Because they have started covering a large part of their population. In such a situation, they can provide vaccine for the world. The GAVI chief said, “We hope that developed countries will start providing their corona vaccines to the rest of the world, even those which they are not using.” For example, not only are the vaccines of Moderna, Pfizer and J&J available in the US, but there are also vaccines for Novavax and AstraZeneca ‘.
Berkeley said that the biggest challenge currently is access to the vaccine. He said that we have ordered more than two billion doses, but we will get most of them in the second half of the year. So the first half is very challenging for us. If we could have got more doses, we would have been able to take them to the most needy countries. In response to a question, Berkeley said that America has done a lot of work on vaccine manufacture. After his domestic needs are met, the world is sure to get its benefits. Our goal is to stop the corona epidemic by the end of this year, which is important for global health security.
